Instructor Profile
I am 22 years old, and my formal education is in biology, with a sub-concentration in economics. As a student at Harvey Mudd College in California, one of the most difficult and demanding colleges of science and engineering in the United States, I have undergone extensive training in general mathematics, computer science, and data analysis. Specifically, my relevant skills include in-depth training in probability and statistics, as applied to the modeling of random variables, such as stochastic processes. The concepts of probability and statistics with temporal dependence are particularly important to the poker player, who implicitly analyzes them at all times.
I began playing poker in the spring of 2005, and first began taking it seriously and playing for money during the summer of 2005. The majority of my bankroll accretion came from B&M casino play, in $3-6 LHE and $1-3 NLHE. As I began to take online poker more seriously, I had worked up from PartyPoker's $0.10-0.25 NLHE (6-max) to $0.50-1 by the time it closed in fall 2006. At that time, I moved my bankroll to PokerStars and have played the low-stakes 6-max NLHE games to the present. I now frequent the $1-2 and $2-4 tables on PokerStars.
As a credit to my abilities as a teacher, I have received "special user status" (granted to those considered to give accurate, consistent, and thorough advice on the forums) with Liquidpoker, a popular online poker community. Through the site, I have volunteered my time and friendship to a number of novice players, with whom I interact as quasi-students. Currently, about a dozen people regularly ask me for advice on games from $0.5-0.10 NLHE to $1-2 NLHE, primarily in 6-max but also in full-ring formats. I would be happy to list any of these people as references. I also work closely with Daut, GreenPlastic's student, who is a good friend of mine and from whom I have learned quite a lot.
From a more personal perspective, I fully believe that I have the ability to earn my keep as a poker teacher. I speak clearly and articulately, and have the ability to express my understanding of the game with clarity and succinctness. Furthermore, I am a fairly new player myself, and have not lost sight of the novice within me, so I am able to relate to common misconceptions and mistakes newer players tend to make. As examples to illustrate the level at which I understand the game of poker, I would be happy to provide detailed posts that I have written on the Liquidpoker forums.
